The Foundations
The journey began in 1904, when Sidney Deutsch, an 18-year-old Hungarian immigrant, founded the company. After a bout of blood poisoning forced him to leave his job at Baldwin Piano, Sidney bought a small hand-operated press from a roommate. Operating as Sidney Printing Works on 5th Street (where the Carew Tower stands today), he built a reputation for excellence by printing calling cards for those he met on the street.
The Post-War Expansion
After serving in World War II, Sidney’s sons, Frank and Howard, returned home to take the helm. Under their leadership, the company entered a period of rapid industrial growth. By 1959, the business moved to our current location on Colerain Avenue, scaling operations to run multiple shifts around the clock to meet the demands of a booming regional economy.
Partnerships with Giants
SpringDot has always been a partner to the brands that defined childhoods and homes. In the 1970s, we were early adopters of computerized systems, a move that allowed us to handle high-volume, complex work for legendary names like:
- Kenner Toys: Supporting the packaging and promotion of iconic toy lines.
- Gibson Greetings: Delivering precision for the greeting card industry.
- Louisville Bedding: Managing large-scale commercial needs with local care.
The Digital Revolution & SpringDot
In 2000, the fourth generation of the Deutsch family ushered in a new millennium by officially changing our name to SpringDot. This name represents our “energized” approach to communication—bridging the gap between the “Dot” of traditional print and the “Dot” of the internet.
Since then, we have evolved into a “click and mortar” powerhouse by innovating with:
